Dato: 05.01.2024 Svartype: Med merknad To whom it may concern I am writing to express my deep concern and objection to the proposed funding cuts for private and friskole education in Norway. As a resident and a parent, I believe that such cuts will have severe and detrimental effects on the international community, local businesses, and the overall education system in the country. It is disheartening to consider that the education of our children might be compromised in the name of saving money on the government budget. Our future generation deserves every opportunity for a well-rounded and high-quality education, and any reduction in funding for private and friskole institutions could inadvertently penalize them. Education is an investment in our collective future, and it is crucial that we prioritize and support it fully. Firstly, the proposed funding cuts will adversely impact international families who seek an international, transferrable education for their children. Many families choose private or friskole education for the unique benefits it offers, including a curriculum tailored to the needs of globally mobile students. These schools play a crucial role in providing a stable and consistent educational environment for children of expatriates and foreign workers, allowing them to seamlessly integrate into the education systems in Norway. Secondly, the reduction in funding may negatively affect companies that rely on foreign workers contributing to the Norwegian economy. Foreign workers not only generate revenue for their respective companies but also contribute significantly to the national tax base. By jeopardizing the education options available to their families, the proposed cuts may discourage skilled professionals from considering Norway as a destination for work and investment. Furthermore, the potential overflow of students into local schools due to the funding cuts may lead to overcrowded classrooms. Larger class sizes can place an additional burden on teachers, impacting the quality of education provided. The increased student-to-teacher ratio may hinder the overall learning experience for children and reduce the capacity for one-on-one teacher time, ultimately affecting academic outcomes. In addition, it is important to consider the right for parents to choose the education that aligns with European laws. Parents have the right to make decisions about their children's education based on their individual needs and circumstances. Restricting access to private and friskole education may violate these rights and limit the choices available to parents. Moreover, the proposed funding cuts are likely to result in the closure of a significant number of private and friskole facilities. These institutions have relied heavily on subsidies that have been in place for the last 20 years. If the proposed changes are passed, it may no longer be financially viable for a large amount of these schools to operate. This could have a profound impact on the quality of education, the number of teachers available, the loss of jobs for teachers in these schools that will be effected, the overall capacity to accommodate students in schools, and the facilities offered by these schools. In conclusion, I urge you to reconsider the proposed funding cuts for private and friskole education in Norway. The consequences of such cuts extend beyond the immediate impact on educational institutions, affecting the international community, local businesses, and the overall well-being of our children. Compromising the education of our children and jeopardizing the existence of these institutions is not a fair or sustainable solution. Instead, let us explore alternative areas for cost savings that do not inadvertently undermine the educational foundation that our society has built over the years. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I hope for a thoughtful reconsideration of the proposed measures.
