Borten Moe states, " Eg trur også ei studieavgift vil gi oss meir motiverte internasjonale studentar" - a statement I fundamentally disagree with. Students applying to Norwegian universities must be highly qualified to meet the admission criteria. No unmotivated student can meet the criteria - the fee merely means that students who do not have the money cannot take their education in Norway.

I was highly motivated to attend university in Norway. Before completing my master's degree at NTNU in Trondheim, I took a bachelor's degree at St. Olaf College in the United States, where I double majored in Political Science and Norwegian language and minored in Nordic Studies. This choice of study program documents my motivation to study in Norway. Nonetheless, I would not have been able to attend NTNU if I would have had to pay the tuition fee. As it was, I took out loans and had a part time job to pay for the cost of living in Norway, as I, of course, I did not qualify for any state support.

Thanks to my master's degree from NTNU, I got permanent job in Norway, working as a researcher. My company hires many students from Norwegian universities, like me, who come from outside the EU and EEA. If the government imposes a tuition fee on students from outside the EU and EEA, it will likely impact Norwegian companies.

Education for all is a founding principle here in Norway. Once Norway starts to charge for university, the 'for all' part of 'education for all' disappears. This has huge consequences on how society views education. Education should be education for all – not just for those who can afford to pay for it, no matter where they come from.
