Dato: 12.11.2025 Svartype: Med merknad Even though I am not affected in the exact same way as some of my Norwegian colleagues by the planned change, but I have been observing with great concern for months the uncertainty and stress this issue has caused among the colleagues affected at our embassy. The lack of clarity about the possible financial and social consequences, particularly with regard to pensions and health insurance, is causing considerable stress and has noticeably impaired the working atmosphere at our mission. Many colleagues who have worked loyally for Norwegian missions abroad for years or even decades are experiencing a feeling of uncertainty, even questioning how much their own labour is actually worth. Where motivation and identification with working for Norway used to prevail, doubt, frustration and mistrust have take over regarding this issue. This has a direct impact on the well-being of employees and ultimately on the quality of their and our work. It is particularly disappointing that the concerns and worries of employees – for example, about the SAMU system or the trade unions – have hardly been taken into account so far. Many have the impression that feedback is formally received but not really listened to. This conveys the feeling that participation and involvement are not welcome. The active ignoring of trade unions and the lack of involvement of the workforce in such far-reaching decisions contradict the claim of being an open and respectful employer. I would therefore urge you not to implement this proposal. Such a measure would not only severely disadvantage many long-serving colleagues financially and socially, but would also permanently damage the trust between employer and employee. For me, trust, loyalty and mutual respect have always been the basis for effective cooperation here in this workplace. This is something that is truly lived, but in this case it feels as if these values have not really been taken into account. UD should reconsider the process and seriously involve employees in the decision-making process, working together to find solutions that are socially acceptable and forward-looking. In my opinion, this is the only way to rebuild lost trust and improve the working atmosphere in the long term.
